我學生群中,有已被灌輸「祖國很厲害」思想的。
每當我因要寫rewrite而被逼「歌唱祖國」,
來觀摩我歌唱祖國的能力吧!

In the past, China came up the Four Great Inventions. Today, it can boast of innovative products like Huawei’s foldable phone and the longest high speed railway in the world. Furthermore, its number scientific publications is impressive and it produces the large number of science graduates yearly.
My rewrite
When Salvador Dali painted his famous “melting” watchpieces – one of them so bendable that it hangs on a tree branch like a piece of laundry – his intent was to depict objects with no relation to reality. Little did he know that almost 100 years later, the country that once built the Great Wall would dream up a smart phone that looks exactly like the Dali watchpiece, only that its capabilities far exceed the telling of time. Huawei’s foldable phone can, in fact, carry out the functions of three of the four Great Inventions of Ancient China – it can be a paper notebook, a compass and a printer (when wirelessly connected with one).
China may no longer be the world’s most populous country, but it is still the nation that spawns the largest number of graduate school students (3.65 million in 2022, or half of Hong Kong’s population) and the largest number of scientific publications (2.15 million in 2022 alone). The country from which the Silk Road originated has also built a hi-speed railway 45,000 km long, the equivalent of 10 times the east-west diameter of the Australian continent.
