我的教寫作方法,之所以跟大部分英文老師不一樣,
這周一個即將考 IGCSE 的學生,給了我這條 past paper 題目:
Write a story titled: The Escape
我知道她很喜歡 K-pop,所以我就寫了一篇 inspired by Jang Wonyoung 的文章. Needless to say, that class was great fun.
Write a story titled: The Escape
To maintain my A4-sized waist – waist so narrow that a piece of A4 paper vertically placed on my midsection will cover it entirely – my only meal of the day is measured in grams; for the rest of the day I subsist on black coffee. To make sure the media can never snap a photo of me with my eyes half-closed, I’ve trained myself to blink only when I look downwards. To appear constantly poised, it’s become second nature for me to stand in high heels for 8 hours, or sit upright for the same duration, without resting my back on the chair even once.
Welcome to my world, the world of K-pop star factory. In a country where most school children cite “K-pop star” as their dream career, so many of us are competing for so few positions. Every girl is already in possession of the same milky complexion, the same anime princess nose, the same long sweeping lashes, thanks to clever makeup and the surgeon’s knife. The only way for me to outwin others is to work harder.
Because I’m stretching myself so thin (pun intended), my idea of a dream vacation is so different from the average person‘s. Whereas most people would long for a stay at a luxury resort in the Caribbeans, my idea of an escape would be to simply stay at home, go completely makeup-less, and wear pyjamas instead of my usual uniform of Brandy Melville cropped tops and skirts so itsy bitsy that they can fit a pre-teen girl. I would either go on Reddit and read endless posts about other people’s problems, or binge on Netflix, Doritos, and Haagen Dazs.
I suspect my dream vacation is also the escape OF choice for other entertainment figures. When a reporter spied on Elizabeth Taylor by secretly going through her trash, he found discarded TV dinner trays. So, even Hollywood’s most bejewelled screen siren was a real person after all.
