Onward and Upward|「老師以為我作文用ChatGPT」

The Tudor Era (1485–1603) is one of the most interesting chapters in English history. Though relatively brief, this period was packed with dramatic change, defined by the reigns of five monarchs. Among them, the three Tudor siblings—Edward VI, Mary I, and Elizabeth I—stand out as pivotal figures. Their intertwined lives shaped the religious, political, and cultural identity of England, leaving an indelible mark on the nation’s story.

It all began with Henry VII, the first Tudor king, who claimed the throne by defeating Richard III at the Battle of Bosworth Field. This victory not only ended the turbulent Wars of the Roses but also established the Tudor dynasty. Determined to strengthen the monarchy, Henry VII focused on financial stability and curbing the power of the nobility. His efforts laid the groundwork for his son, Henry VIII, whose reign would take the Tudor legacy to unprecedented heights.

My rewrite

Anne Bolelyn would probably have regarded with a strange mixture of pride and disgust at the way people are still using her name to make money 500 years after her untimely death. Film producers have continued making film after film on her, walking tours in London have captilized on her notoriety, even The Tower of London – the site of her execution – doesn’t shy away from using her to draw foot traffic and tourist dollars.

It is just as well as this queen still holds fascination in our age of distraction, when the next Tik Tok video is just around the corner to take students’ minds off studying. Thanks to Anne’s mystique, they are more likely to be interested in the dynasty – The Tudor Era (1485–1603) – that saw her rise and downfall: the reigns of her husband (Henry VIII), her siblings (Edward VI and Mary I), and her daughter (Elizabeth I). Students will also learn it was her husband’s father who started the Tudor Dynasty after ending the War of the Roses, and that his dynasty ended with the death of her daughter.
